There is a teachable and theoretical method to the madness of improvisation and being able to create on the spot, and this is a topic I’m particularly passionate about. Ready to record?

Want to learn piano, you've come to the perfect place!

Lessons from complete beginners to advanced players looking to progress. Lessons from young children to adults. I've done it all and seen it all for years, rest assured you're in good hands.

Every student is a completely unique case depending on their age, goals, skill level, work ethic, focus and temperment.  But no matter what I aim to make my students well rounded pianists who are setup with the fundamentals, skills and knoledge to have a life long sucess, joy and apreciation for piano and music as a whole.

Why should you get lessons from a teacher instead of a youtube?

Too often I see piano playrs who can only read notation, bnut they cant imrpovise, compose, play chord progressions, play from memory or play by ear and have fun on the piano. On the other hand sometimes I see piano playrs who have picked up very bad habits, have limited fundamentals, no sight reafing ability, wobbly timing and random technique, no music theory knoledge, often having learnt from youtube at will (sidenote: learning badly from youtube is still way better than not learning at all, so I always admire youtube learners when they come in for lessons).

The skills I aim to teach my piano students along their journey that turn them into the best musician they can be:

  • Excellent notation readers who have great fingering, timing, speed, control and technique. They can sight read easy and moderate pieces on the spot, and use their notation knoledge to piece together highly advanced pieces bar by bar.

  • Excellent performers with the ability to put away the notation, memorise their favourite pieces, play them with musiciality, feel and beauty and wow those around them.

  • A pianoist with excelent knoledge of music thoery, who understands that pretty much all music is simply a chord progression interacting with a melody at it's core. Chord progressions are made from chord structures within keys and melodies are constructed from scales and arpeggios. They can imrpovise, they can compose and create, they can play chord progressions, they can create music on the piano in real time with no notation required, like an artist paints on an empty canvas.

  • I want my students to never feel stressed about their music and piano. I want to foster a joy and love for piano and music and not anxiety. I always have my students working at a level where they are in the sweet spot of chalenning but achievable. At all ages problems can arise when content that is too difficult for a studennts level can overwhelm them and studwents can feel like they're failing, not smart enough or not talented enough. Not matter what I will find that perfect spot for the student where they are acheiving and only push the buttons

  •

  •  and never make the task too insermountable for them. The lessons are always encouraging and supportive. For my teenagers I make sure to weave in songs they love as teengars have developed a strong musical indentity and have idols they strive to be like. Adults often come in to lessons with very high expectations of themselves and I aim to releave them of

Are you looking for piano lessons for your young or teenage child who is a complete begginer?

I am highly experienced at teaching children and teenagers who are complete beginners.

For young students from the ages of 6 to 12 who are complete beginners the focus initially is A variety of games to get the fingers coordinated and be able to have an understanding of finger positioning and develop a knowledge of how the piano is constructed and what the note names are.

From there we start learning the world of notation and start working through a very structured and sequential notation book. Learning notation is fantastic for children because it teaches excellent timing, teaches very simple fingering positions, students can feel a sense of accomplishment every lesson as they tick of and progress through fun and achaeivable pieces.

Angus is a very fantastic music teacher who is very knowledgeable and patient with children. He also encourages and motivates them and brings out their best. My child has been taking piano lessons from Angus and we could see how well she has been doing. We would definitely recommend AW music school as the best place to learn music and also enjoy it.

Raja R

As a "mature aged" student the team at the music school have got me playing tunes with my kids in just 6 weeks. They've rekindled my interest in music. Always a pleasure to turn up for lessons to hear anything from singers, young guitarists or pianists engaging with their teachers.

Brendan A

Angus’ love for music is clear from the way he teaches. Patience, kindness, and a willingness to find new and creative ways to inspire his students.
My daughter looks forward to her lessons, and is motivated to practise and play thanks to Angus’ hard work and teaching methods.
